A Book Extravaganza - featuring classics and some of my favorite books
Classic: Walden by Henry David Thoreau
Synopsis: The work is part personal declaration of independence, social experiment, voyage of spiritual discovery, satire, and manual for self-reliance. Published in 1854, it details Thoreau's experiences over the course of two years in a cabin he built near Walden Pond, amid woodland owned by his friend and mentor Ralph Waldo Emerson, near Concord, Massachusetts.

There was one teacher who taught 7th or 8th grade English who used Who Moved My Cheese? as one of their books. (Can't recall who it was at the moment.) They read it at the beginning of the school year and referred to it all year as an example of various things. I thought that a very interesting thing to do.

Yea, that does sound like your teacher had a great idea. My dad had recommended that I read it and bought me a copy. I don't remember how old I was when I read it though, maybe a teen. ~Meg
DeleteI haven't read the other two but I've owned a copy of Walden for many many years. It's a rather antique copy with paper so frail I'm terrified of turning the pages. But this book has been recommended to me so many times, I should get an ecopy maybe and read it. Did you like it?

I read Walden in high school, I believe it was either my freshman or junior year and liked it. Haven't read it since then so maybe I'll read it again. ~Meg
